At 0900 this morning I drop Dave at bridge 135 for the short walk to Tring station and his journey home. I'm all alone again and continue along the Tring summit pound:
Passing the days wildlife:
And shortly afterwards to Bulbourne Junction where a lot of the Harry H Corbett film 'The Bargee' was filmed:
I arrive at the top of Marsworth locks and wait for a boat to ascend. It exits the lock and shuts the gates, I do some shouting and they open the gates! I think I need a bigger boat! I start down and another boat arrives at the top, I promise to wait at the next lock for them, but there's a boat coming up so I take advantage of the help and carry on down. This happens for most of the flight and makes them easy to descend. I have lock 42 all to myself:
With one lock to go I pass our friends of NB 'no name' from yesterday. They can't resist the opportunity to share yet another lock with me, so we share the bottom lock. There are two day boats waiting to come up, I'd love to stay and spectate! NB 'no name' stops for water and suddenly it's all gone very quiet, no boats and locks to descend! I enjoy the peace and the fantastic views of Ivinghoe Beacon and the Chilterns. It is very pretty around here.
View:
Locks come and go, as do a few boats, the swingbridge at Great Seabrook poses a bit of a problem for the solo boater, but a fisherman on the offside comes to my rescue. I finish the day at Grove, a couple of miles South of Leighton Buzzard. It's been quite hot today, but still one of those that threatened rain a lot of the time, but fortunately no end product!
Today: 9 miles - 17 locks - 7.5 hours
So Far: 465 miles - 372 locks - 233.5 hours
